HO Sports Interviews 2016, 2017, and 2018 NCWSA Nationals women's slalom champions

Thoughts on Nationals by the Past Three Women’s Slalom Champions by HO Sports

At the Connelly Skis 2018 NCWSA Nationals HO Sports caught up with the past three NCWSA Nationals women’s slalom champions; 2016 champion Florida Southern College skier Allie Nicholson, 2017 University of Louisiana at Monroe skier Hanna Straltsova, and 2018 champion University of Louisiana at Lafayette skier Jamiee Bull. HO Sports interviewed the trio to get their thoughts on competing at Nationals, and what makes collegiate skiing different and fun for them.

What’s your favorite thing about collegiate skiing?

We’ve got a team, and they always cheer for you, support you, help you before your start [and] after your start, it’s so exciting.

Hanna Straltsova, 2017 NCWSA Nationals Slalom Champion

…I am wearing necklaces, headbands, and face paint; we would never do that at pro tournaments. Just to see this different aspect of skiing is really cool, and just brings another part to the sport.

Jamiee Bull, ULL, 2018 NCWSA Nationals Slalom Champion

All the chants…. You see people walking around now, today, with no voice, they are trying to talk and they are whispering [because] they have nothing left, they have given it their all. No matter how you ski, if you ski good or bad, your team is going to be there to get you out of the water.”

Allie Nicholson, FSC, 2016 NCWSA Nationals Slalom Champion

the team will be there to build you up… [at collegiate tournaments] you have 15-16 people running up to you immediately as soon as you get out of the water. That’s my favorite part.

Allie Nicholson, FSC, 2016 NCWSA Nationals Slalom Champion

… you really cheer [and] you’re excited for everybody that goes out on the water.

Allie Nicholson, Florida Southern Colllege

We would like to thank John Mommer and HO Sports for putting together this wonderful behind the scenes interview of our current and past women’s Nationals slalom champions, and thank HO Sports for all the continued support of collegiate skiing.
