A week ago on Employee Appreciation Day, we put up a public vote and also polled NCWSA.com contributors to vote on the inaugural NCWSA.com Writers Awards. Now the results are in; congrats to all the nominees and the winners! For our first ever NCWSA.com Writers Awards we had three categories: Series of the Year, Article of the Year, and Writer of the Year.
NCWSA.com 2017 Series of the Year
The nominees were:
- Alumni Spotlight Series by Kathleen Nolan
- Checking in with NCWSA Record Holders by Kathleen Nolan
- Marketing Mondays with Molly by Molly Voska
- #TeamNewsTuesday by Various Authors
And the winner is:
The NCWSA.com 2017 Series of the Year, Alumni Spotlights, is authored by Kathleen Nolan. In the series, Kathleen reaches out to various alumni to find out what they are doing now, some of their memories of collegiate skiing, and advice for current and future skiers. We have many amazing alumni that were featured in 2017 as the series really took off, and each one has a unique story on how collegiate water skiing changed their lives forever.
I started this series as a way to keep alumni engaged. It has been fun to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. It’s great that people are enjoying the series! And the winner is:
The NCWSA.com 2017 Article of the Year, WC XX: 20 Reasons Why Team Midwest Winter Conference Is Amazing!, was co-authored by Adam Koehler and Kathleen Nolan. The research and quote gathering was an elongated process that helped the article highlight why so many people have amazing memories of and continue to love Team Midwest’s Winter Conference.
As NCWSA Secretary I nominated a bunch of other writer’s articles, so I was just happy to have an article nominated. Kathleen and I put a lot of work into gathering memories and quotes for the article, and that was before all the actual writing, structuring of the article, and then tossing most of the structure out and restructuring the article into its final form. I am really thankful for all the help with the website and content creation, and certainly did not expect to win with all the other amazing contributions that were in the nomination pool. — Adam Koehler
