NCWSA.com Writers’ Awards Nominees & 2018 “Employee” Appreciation

Here at ncwsa.com we have many volunteers that act very similar to employees, and today, on National Employee Appreciation Day, we would like to celebrate them!

Additionally, with the Oscars this weekend, we are diving back into awards season and have our launched the voting on our ballots for 2017 NCWSA.com Article of the Year and 2017 NCWSA.com Series of the Year!

NCWSA.com Writers

Adam Koehler

Adam is the NCWSA Secretary and helps direct the ship here at ncwsa.com. Adam is an alumnus of Marquette University, former NCWSA Operations Committee Chair, and past winner of the NCWSA Outstanding Leader of the Year award. Currently, Adam is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of California, Riverside. Adam’s article “WC XX: 20 Reasons Why Team Midwest Winter Conference Is Amazing!” is nominated for 2017 NCWSA.com Article of the Year.

Kathleen Nolan

Kathleen is our primary alumni correspondent at ncwsa.com. Kathleen is an alumna of University of Illinois and resides in Chicago, Illinois. The majority of her articles get in touch with alumni to highlight where they are now, how collegiate skiing changed their lives, and how alumni can give back to the NCWSA through knowledge and volunteer work! One of her major contributions to ncwsa.com in 2017 is her Alumni Spotlight Series. Kathleen has two series up for 2017 NCWSA.com Series of the Year, her Alumni Spotlight Series and her Checking in with NCWSA Record Holders Series! To contact her about any potential alumni articles, or to volunteer for an alumni spotlight, you can email alumni@ncwsa.com.

Margaret Silhasek

Margaret is a major Team Midwest contributor, but has contributed articles about or for all regions and teams of the NCWSA. Margaret is finishing up her collegiate skiing career at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. If anyone knows of any sports media/production jobs let her know–she’s searching the job market! đŸ˜€ She is the current Midwest Regional Secretary and is a former winner of the NCWSA Outstanding Leader of the Year award, but before she had all those titles we are proud to say she was with us here at ncwsa.com as a writer! Margaret helps coordinate recap articles for the Midwest Region, which can sometimes have four tournaments on the same weekend! Margaret has two articles up for 2017 NCWSA.com Article of the Year, “A Tribute to Team Moms” and “‘Tis the Non-Water Ski Season“.

Molly Voska

Molly started as NCWSA Marketing Committee Chairperson midway through 2017, and hit the ground running by contributing to ncwsa.com. Molly is a Western Michigan University alumna, and co-chairs the Membership and Marketing Committee with Amber Aho. Molly helped keep the content rolling throughout the summer by writing about collegiate connections to AWSA summer skiing! Molly continues to help produce marketable content for the NCWSA, and as part of her position has started her series Marketing Mondays with Molly to highlight ways teams can successfully use various media to help promote and market their teams. Molly’s Marketing Mondays Series is nominated for 2017 NCWSA.com Series of the Year and her article featuring Indiana alumnus B’ster Detty, “Road to Nattys, Road to Pros?“, is nominated for 2017 NCWSA.com Article of the Year.

NCWSA.com Recap Writers

In 2017 we started writing recaps for all of our collegiate tournaments. Without the volunteer work of our recap writers, we would not be able to write such great individualized stories that represent each and every collegiate water ski tournament. We thank you all for your dedication to helping everyone stay involved and up to date with collegiate water skiing for our 2017 tournaments.

  • Catherine Bartzen, Marquette University
  • Sara Condra, Michigan State University
  • Riley Johnstone, University of Dayton
  • Hope LaMonica, University of Iowa
  • Kirk Lee, University of California, Los Angeles
  • Tabbie Magner, San Diego State University
  • Margaret Silhasek, University of Nebraska – Lincoln
  • Melissa Tolle, University of Texas
  • Molly Voska, Western Michigan Unviersity

We are always looking for recap writers from across the nation. Recaps that contain the first person perspective and help represent the happenings of that weekend, are some of the best ways to spread the love of collegiate water skiing. If you are interesting in volunteering to write recaps in 2018, please contact the NCWSA via social media or at info@ncwsa.com. We prefer to have all recap writers set up prior to tournaments, so that writers know to take pictures and think about the article in advance rather than in retrospect.

Support Staff

In addition to our writers, we have a knowledgeable and dedicated support staff of Joey McNamara, Adam Koehler, and Michael Newth who have redesigned the site, implemented useful plugins to distribute news to regions, and created a hub for the happenings of collegiate water skiing. Thank you.
