At the 21st Team Midwest Winter Conference the region held their board elections. We are happy to introduce the newest member of the NCWSA Board of Directors and the new Midwestern Region Vice Chair, David Huisman; let’s get to know a little more about David.
David Huisman
Who are you?
I am an alumnus of Western Michigan University, I utilized all 4 years of eligibility skiing with Western Michigan’s Team. I continue to reside and work in Kalamazoo, Michigan; which allows me to continue skiing and work with the team all summer long. I also compete in Show Skiing with a team from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Why did you run for Midwest Vice Chair?
I believe that across all divisions of water skiing, collegiate skiing is a fundamental building block to growing the sport. I believe that the mentality of togetherness, team approach, and diversified networking that collegiate water skiing offers has built a very strong supportive community; that is not necessarily found within other water ski divisions. Similar to many of the other board members, my friend base is made up primarily of collegiate water skiers from a variety of different teams that I competed with. I want to be able to continue to take the great things that collegiate water skiing has going for it and continue to adapt, mold, and grow opportunities for all current and upcoming teams within the Midwest.
What is one big future goal you hope to accomplish by taking on this board position?
I think a goal we all have is continued growth and development with both current teams and future newly developed teams. A goal that I have is to be apart of developing a Birth to Death mentality within the water ski community. Getting middle school and high school students working with collegiate teams to encourage and prep those students on joining a team when they enter college. I also hope to assist with more communication and creativity with newly developed and struggling teams. Last, but certainly not least, I hope to help create a networking system for when students go on summer break, this system would allow students to connect with each other and join other teams or sites in practicing over the summer months.
