The Athlete’s Advisory Council (AAC) is the NCWSA athlete’s representation on the NCWSA Board of Directors. Each year two co-chairs are elected. This year, Sam Greenwood has been reelected and returns to the Board of Directors for another year, and his co-chair for the year is newcomer Jared Lutz. Let’s get to know a little about out co-chairs of the AAC:
Sam Greenwood
Who are you?
My name is Sam Greenwood and I am a senior at the University at Alabama with one more semester until graduation. I am majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in general business with hopes of being hired somewhere near a ski lake (of course).
Sam is also the current NCWSA Male Athlete of the Year.
Why did you run for AAC co-chair?
I’d like to say a big thank you to those who re-elected me to this position. Dane and I sparked a lot of great conversation that turned into serious topics that were brought up our past board meeting. The reason I reran for AAC is because I know how much this sport has given to me, and I think that this is a great way that I can give back. As an AAC Co-Chair I think I can help the NCWSA continue to move in a positive direction.
As AAC chair you chair the committee that represents all athletes of the NCWSA, with that in mind what is your goal or big idea you want to try or complete this year?
As the AAC Co-Chair I’d like to continue where we left off at the January board meeting. AAC over the past year was able to work on the rule book to make sure everyone has equal opportunities to participate and compete in this sport that we all love.
Jared Lutz
Who are you?
I am a junior studying biology/pre-med with a minor in business management at Miami University, where I am the president of our club ski team. I am originally from Portage, MI, where I grew up skiing on a public lake, and got involved in the tournament skiing when I was about 12. I also serve on the MCWSA committee.
Why did you run for AAC co-chair?
Coming from a large Midwest team, I may have a little different perspective than many past AAC chairs. No one on my team experienced the competitive side to water skiing before college, and the same is true for many Midwest [and non-Midwest] teams. My involvement with teams like that in conjunction with my experience in AWSA will provide me with a different dynamic than some other AAC members have. The water ski community means a lot to me and if there is anything that I can do to help improve the sport, I would love to have a hand in it.
As AAC chair you chair the committee that represents all athletes of the NCWSA, with that in mind what is your goal or big idea you want to try or complete this year?
I think the committee has done a very good job in the past listening to the input of the NCWSA as a whole and helping to reflect those changes in the NCWSA bylaws. I believe the NCWSA and the teams within it are in good standing, however there is always room for improvement. I think the biggest factor moving forward is to provide the best conditions for every skier to succeed and enjoy the sport to its fullest.
2018 Board of Directors Complete!
With the election of the two AAC co-chairs, the 2018 NCWSA Board of Directors is now complete. We look forward to continuing to grow our sport and making the NCWSA even better than it already is!
