A Ski Mom for Generations: Connie Bergmark

Connie Bergmark has had a major impact on the waterski community, particularly across the west coast. Her involvement in the NCWSA began with her during her time at San Diego State University, where she skied alongside her sister. In the following years, her family continued on to ski across the west coast: her son Robert is an SDSU alumni; daughter Jaye skied at WWU; nieces Mallory, Melissa, and nephew Matt skied for ASU. She’s considered a “Team Mom” at all three schools, being a great coach for them, inviting them to ski and practice at her lake, and helping with equipment donations and repairs. Her dedication shows even beyond her coaching and support for those teams, she also maintains her ratings as driver, scorer, and judge, so she can help teams in any way they might need. Connie has opened up her lake for both practices and for tournaments, including hosting the NCWSA Collegiate Nationals at Imperial Lakes multiple times.

Connie also encourages collegiate skiers to remain involved with AWSA after graduation, helping them continue to build and strengthen the waterskiing community. By connecting NCWSA skiers with AWSA, she has also helped create connections between local skiers and collegiate teams, strengthening the sport at both levels.

Her contributions have been recognized throughout the waterski community. In 2016, she was awarded the NCWSA Phil Chase Outstanding Official or Volunteer Award, then in 2019, she was awarded the Western Regional Merit Award for her friendship and tireless work on behalf of the sport. In 2021, she was inducted into the NCWSA Hall of Fame.

She still actively competes in tournaments, and is a huge supporter of all the collegiate teams and skiers. Her willingness to give her time, resources, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the next generation embodies the spirit of the NCWSA and has left a lasting legacy throughout the waterski community.
