Ladies and Gentleman, skiers and wakeboarders,
Welcome to the second annual NCWSA Committee awards. *Applause*
In our second year of recognition, we have opened up the nomination process to the full Marketing and Membership committee (Chairs: Molly Voska & Amber Aho. Committee: SAC-Paul O’Hara, MW-Nikki Weber, SCR-Madison Hayden, W-Kari McCollum, AAC-Sam Greenwood) What started last year has renewed legitimacy, and fresh awards. The Marketing and Membership committee presents these awards to recognize the talent, dedication, and creativity you bring to NCWSA, helping to grow and share the sport.
2018 NCWSA Marketing Award Winners
Recognition of Excellence
Cut Hardest, Suck Least
Miami University made the epic, viral “Cut Harder, Suck Less” shirts we all know and love. A year late, we saw the phrase smeared on signs, shirts, and skin. The catchphrase was prevalent in the HO Spirit award competition. We recommend you visit USTPO.com to trademark and license it in 2019.
Social Butterfly
The Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette tagged @TheNCWSA or #NCWSA in the most pictures on Social Media. The team typically shared each of their teammates on the dock, or with their scores, on Instagram Stories from every tournament.
Video Savants
Michigan State University entered great content into every video contest, resulting in 2 video contest wins in 2018 (HO Sports #MostFunWins Collegiate Contest and the USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Collegiate Contest)
Spiciest Theme
The University of California, Los Angeles took us on a road rockin’ trip down to Flavortown at the ConChallnelly Skis 40th Annual National Collegiate Water Ski Championship.
Tee-rrific
Lander University knows what Saturdays are for.
Coolest Collab
San Diego State University was featured in a T-Mobile/Samsung commercial, along with breaking Guinness World Records for longest distance waterskiing & wakeboarding while being towed by a blimp.
Challenge Accepted
Clemson University challenged all collegiate teams to a Tandem Slippery Slalom contest, with social video submissions. The contest was a hit, and after working with the NCWSA Awards Committee, they were able to pass out a Masterline handle to the winner, along with Clemson Ski stickers to all participants.
Supportive Sharers
Brian Smith (@skihusband) posts a lot of water ski photographs and many of them are from midwest collegiate tournaments! Thanks for all the shares of our skiers.
The Grubbs (@BellAcquaLake3) love to share our videos, hype up collegiate water ski, and post about the #WestCoastBestCoast and the Arizona State University water ski team!
Back on the Horse
Grand Valley State University rallied from a Nationals absence (2017), with a recruiting push and picked up some strong new members to the point they beefed up their team to make it to San Marcos for the Connelly Skis 2018 NCWSA Nationals in Division 2.
Class Act
Auburn University shined in southern charm as they hosted teams from around the country for some spring season skiing, gave standing ovation for wins by any SAC (South & Atlantic Coastal) teams, and overall just always have a fantastic supportive attitude.
Best Resurrection
The Indiana University team snapped back strong, growing from a social team to a strong contender. Recruitment and great leadership helped this team make waves at All-Stars and regional tournaments.
Best Newbie Team
University of Colorado Boulder is back! Their new team is loving the #WestCoastBestCoast and almost had a shot at Nationals! We’re looking forward to more from the Buffaloes
Hats Off
Western Washington University worked with Findlay Hats to get some sick sun-coverage.
Most Epic Body Paint
Iowa State University golden girls – Nuf’ said.
Most Dedicated Body Art
Texas A&M literally burned their school name onto their skin. Epic.
*Not recommended by dermatologists, oncologists, or the NCWSA.
Most #CrashingIntoMonday
