UC Waterski & Wakeboard Helps Host Children’s Adaptive Ski Clinic

On June 8th 2019, UC skiers teamed up with On the Edge, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (Division of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy), the Skier’s Runway club, and other members of our local ski community to hold an adaptive basic skills clinic. Everybody braved the dark forecast and worked to make event run smoothly and safely. We were witness to the most wonderful experience of almost 20 kids skiing for the first time ever. The smiles and excitement of each participant were by far the most rewarding part of the whole day. Sharing our love for the #lifeonthewater with these children and seeing how it affected them may very well be the favorite ski memory of the year for all our volunteers.

Thank you to all supporters and volunteers!

Our site owner, alumni, and local ski families were so supportive and jumped right in (both literally into the lake and figuratively) to help out in a range of positions in order to make this event happen. Our new friends from On The Edge and the Physical Therapy department at Children’s were also incredibly supportive and it was amazing to see how passionate they all were about bringing our sport to all levels of abilities. We can’t wait to make this an annual event and we hope to make it even better next year.

I am Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside and Bachelor's and Masters from Marquette University. I skied collegiately at Marquette and in 2009 I received the NCWSA Outstanding Leader Award. I was NCWSA Operations Committee Chair for 7 years, and the NCWSA Secretary for 8 years.
