Who is Ashley Stevens?
I am a Clemson Tiger, and I’ve water skied since I was born. I’ve been involved in water ski competitions since I was 8, and I’ve played volleyball since I was 11.
That Thing Called School…
I am a Junior at Clemson University as a Mechanical Engineer with a Business minor. I originally choose Biomedical Engineering but switched to Mechanical the week of finals of my spring semester Freshman year (stressful!). I became interested in the Engineering field while talking to some family/ski friends who piqued my interest in prosthesis. During the Summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy (as featured above).
My Ski Life
My father, Dale Stevens, is a barefooter who grew up in Wisconsin. While he doesn’t ski as often as he would like now, he still loves to stay busy in the sport as an AWSA, NCWSA, and ABC official and as the 2018 & 2020 USA Elite Barefoot World Team’s Coach.
My mother, Judi Stevens, is a 3-event skier, turned barefooter, then turned back to 3-event skier. Her favorite event is, of course, flying through the air. She once held the Pennsylvania State Record for jumping. She was beyond thrilled when I picked up jumping in college.
Within the first 2 weeks of being born, I was in the boat and before my 1st birthday, my mom had me in her arms while riding jumpers! While most babies would fall asleep during car rides, I would fall asleep in the boat. I guess you could say skiing is in my blood and forever a part of my life. When we moved to Florida and to my home site, Okeeheelee, I became a single event skier (yes, just slalom). I had a small stint where I did all 3-events, however, volleyball replaced trick and jump.
I joined Clemson’s Ski Team as a recruit in the Fall of 2016. Here, I became a 2.5-event skier with a promise of jumping at Regionals and Nationals ONLY- no other tournaments. Come Spring I had the bug and kept on jumping! While Slalom will probably always be my favorite as it is the most challenging to me, jump is a close second, and trick skiing — well it’s just there. For the Clemson Ski Team, I’ve been Secretary (2017), Vice President (2018), and was just elected as President for 2019. I’ve had the honor of being awarded the Clemson Club Sports Team MVP Award (2017 Spring) and the 2018 SAC Team MVP Award. In addition to this, I hold officials’ ratings as Regular Scorer, Regular Judge, and Assistant Driver.
Bringing in the Money!
I coach travel volleyball for Carolina One Volleyball (C1VB) in Greenville, SC — this will be my second year with them.
I’ve also joined the Clemson Co-Op program where I interviewed with 9 companies in the span of 3 days and accepted a job with AWL Automation in Spartanburg, SC beginning in 2019. This program adds an extra year on to my studies by allowing me to alternate working and studying each semester

Thanks for taking the time to learn a bit about what all makes up Ashley! I’m glad to have joined the NCWSA Writing Crew and look forward to bringing some South & Atlantic Coastal spirit to the site. Go Tigers!
