2019 Reflections: Western Edition

As the year of 2019 comes to an end, we would like to reflect back with those around us. We had some great national level events with 2019 NCWSA All-Stars at Swerve Watersports Center and the Syndicate Waterskis 2019 NCWSA Nationals at Bell Acqua Waterski Lakes.

Each of these reflection articles will look back with reflections from those in a specific region or those reflecting on the events of that region. We kicked things off with the SAC, moved through the Midwest, and now its time for reflections from the West Coast.

2019 for the West Coast Best Coast

Everyone had a blast at Syndicate Waterskis 2019 Collegiate Nationals on the West Coast, and the fun did not stop there for the Western Region as San Diego State hosted five other Western Region teams in the final collegiate tournament of the calendar year on Mission Bay on November 16th and 17th.

Giving Thanks

As I reached out to many individuals in this process, many simply wanted to give thanks to all those that helped their team, themselves, their region, or collegiate water skiing as a whole.

From the West, Karah Hocking (Western Washington University) would like to thank several members of the WWU ski team and Western region support crew:

Kamille Hocking and Eric Negomier have gone above and beyond when it comes to recruiting new skiers to the West Coast. It’s hard to commit to skiing in the Pacific Northwest, and the two of them have made connections nationwide to grow the Western Washington University team and encourage new west coast skiers.

Terry Goodman, as always, has created an environment that draws in skiers from all over the nation. He’s always available for support and tips when it comes to skiing and recruiting. The team he built at WWU has benefited so many over the years.

Randy Hocking and the Kienbaum family were incredible at the NCWSA Western Regionals. We had temperatures in the low 30’s and they assisted in putting on a safe and well-run tournament for our west coast skiers. The tournament could not have happened without their help and encouragement through the weekend.

Many of our skiers from Washington to Texas to Wisconsin to Georgia are grateful for their teammates that have turned into family and the skier that have become a close-knit community.

Thanks & Congratulations

We have many people involved in our sport that have allowed us to grow to where we are today. We would like to give thanks to everyone who has officiated at tournaments, been involved in the NCWSA, and those that have helped our teams in any way. We would also like to congratulate all of our skiers on the accomplishments that have happened throughout the year.
