This year the Board of Directors elected two additional Honorary National Directors, Camille Tyler and Harley Wallace! We asked them a few questions, so that you can get to know each of these outstanding individuals, but first…
What is an Honorary National Director?
The Honorary National Director (HND) title is one of reverence granted for life through an election by the NCWSA Board of Directors based on the requirements outlined in the NCWSA Bylaws. Most often, an individual elected to this position has provided significant contributions to the NCWSA at both National and Regional levels, and he or she will continue to provide contributions as an Honorary National Director. Now let’s get to know our two newest Honorary National Directors…
Camille Tyler
Where did you go to school and ski?
I went to Texas A&M, Texas State, and University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
What board positions have you held in the past?
I was Marketing Committee Chair, South Central Vice Chair, and South Central Chair.
What is your favorite fact about collegiate skiing?
The friends you meet in collegiate skiing will be your friends for life. It’s one of the only sports that you can continue after college, making every Regional and National tournament an annual reunions. Collegiate skiing is like a big family. You can go pretty much go anywhere in the world and even if you don’t know a skier there, one of your ski friends probably does and they’ll connect you with that person who will invite you into their home and treat you as if they’ve known you for ages. It’s a very comforting feeling knowing that no matter where you go, or what you do, your ski family will always be there for you.
What does becoming an Honorary National Director mean to you?
NCWSA has been a huge part of my life and has changed it for the better. My father had a special place in his heart for collegiate skiing and it wasn’t until I skied collegiately that I understood his love and passion. My hope is that my involvement in this organization will help spread that passion to more people
Harley Wallace
Where did you go to school and ski?
I skied for University of California, San Diego, from 1997-2001. I was a team captain for 2 years.
What board positions have you held in the past?
On the NCWSA Board I was Western Region Vice Chairman, Western Region Chairman, and National Vice Chairman.
What is your favorite fact about collegiate skiing?
My favorite part of college skiing is it introduces people who have never been involved in competitive skiing into the sport, makes tournament boats, lakes, courses, and jumps accessible to recreational skiers, and creates lifelong friendships. Three event water skiing is a great group of people, and the NCWSA exposes thousands of recreational skiers to the sport.
What does becoming an Honorary National Director mean to you?
Being an Honorary National Director means a lot to me. I love college water skiing and it has been a major part of my life for almost 20 years. However, the last few years, with marriage and new challenges in my career, I didn’t have the time to dedicate to the sport that I used to. Being an Honorary Director will help me stay connected to the sport and give me an opportunity to continue to contribute and help the sport.
