A few weeks ago the NCWSA South Central Region held a winter conference. At the region’s winter conference the yearly regional board elections took place. We are proud to introduce the new South Central Vice Chair, Jackson Driggs. Let’s get to know a little about Jackson as he takes on this new role!
Jackson Driggs
Who are you?
I am an alumni of the University of Texas at Austin where I got a B.S. Degree in Petroleum Engineering, and I was a 4 year member of the University of Texas Water Ski Team. I currently live and work in Dallas, Texas. I grew up near Tyler, Texas about 2 hours east of Dallas.
Why did you run for South Central Vice Chair?
Collegiate Water Skiing has introduced me to people and given me opportunities that I would have never experienced. I have a desire to give back and help to provide those experiences for others. Over the past several years I have noticed that the South Central Region has had less of a national presence and connection to the board when compared to several of the other regions. I felt that my passion for collegiate skiing, open-minded attitude, and knowledge of the sport could be used to improve the SCR and NCWSA as a whole.
What is one big future goal you hope to accomplish by taking on this board position?
As with all board members, I have a desire to grow the sport of collegiate water skiing to the point that it has an impact on the large skiing community. I would also like to improve the relations between the “scholarship schools” and other teams around the country. I believe there is an unfair stigma surrounding some of the more talented programs that deters interaction and bonding with other teams. Due to the small size of the SCR, teams have broken through these barriers to form relationships and create an atmosphere where Pro-Skiers and beginner skiers are fully enjoying all aspects of collegiate skiing together. My goal would be to have these bonds throughout the nation, and to eliminate the unwarranted “scholarship school” stigma.
Welcome to the Board of Directors Jackson!
