We are delighted to announce Amber Aho as the new Membership Chairperson for the NCWSA Membership & Marketing Committee!

Before we get to know Amber a bit more, we would like to thank Erin Slater for all the work she has done for the NCWSA over the years, and wish her the best of luck as she moves out of the NCWSA Membership Chairperson position. As a University of Cincinnati alumna we expect to see Erin at all the Midwest alumni events!

Amber Aho, NCWSA Membership Chair AnnouncementWho are you?

I am a junior at Iowa State University, and I am majoring in marketing. I ski with the Iowa State Water Ski Team, a.k.a. the winners of the HO sponsored 2017 NCWSA Spirit Award, and I have absolutely fallen in love with the sport of water skiing since I came to college. If I don’t look familiar, I’m also that one girl who wears striped pants and cow suits, and never sits still (and has really good dance moves).

Why did you decide to take on the position of Membership Chairperson?

I wanted this position because I grew up never knowing about this wonderful sport, and the couple of years I have been apart of it has impacted me in such a positive way. I want a chance to give back to the NCWSA because I feel like it has given so much to me.

A goal for me in this position is to help the sport continue to grow by always keeping the fun atmosphere up at tournaments, and other water skiing events. As someone who was new to skiing, I was intimidated at first when it came to competitions, but I was so drawn to the fun-loving atmosphere. I think the easy going vibe and amazing people involved with the sport is a great marketing piece to help gain new members.

Amber has been Iowa State’s President, helped coordinate/host multiple tournaments, helped Iowa State grow its membership base, and successfully executed fundraisers to plan for the team’s future! Additionally, Amber was one of our inaugural Why We Fly contestants for the video contest at All-Stars in Spring 2017, check out her video submission below! As a marketing major, Amber will mesh well with her co-chair Molly Voska who is the Marketing Chairperson. Together, along with their committee, they will be able to apply what they have learned in academia, and help grow our amazing sport on the individual team and national level!

Adam Koehler

I am Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside and Bachelor's and Masters from Marquette University. I skied collegiately at Marquette and in 2009 I received the NCWSA Outstanding Leader Award. I was NCWSA Operations Committee Chair for 7 years, and the NCWSA Secretary for 8 years.
