Heads up Carolina, It’s Time for All-Stars

Top skiers from each region traveled from near and far to compete at Skyview Lakes in Harmony, North Carolina.

Teams flipped a coin to the song “Heads Carolina, Tails California” and ended up in North Carolina for the 2022 All-Stars Tournament.

Day 1

The All-Stars weekend began on Friday, May 20th as the top skiers from each region traveled from near and far to compete at Skyview Lakes in Harmony, North Carolina. Friday was a travel day, as well as a practice day for any competitors that wanted to get in some practice on the lake before the official tournament began.

All-Stars is a great change of pace for the collegiate skiers as they are able to compete with their region, instead of against. Four regions, the South-Central Region, the Midwest, the Western Region, and the SAC Region, were able to get a team together to compete in the 2022 All-Stars tournament.

Day 2

Men’s Slalom

Skiers woke up bright and early in the village of tents on Saturday morning, ready to tackle a full day of skiing. Men’s slalom was first off the dock, breaking the glass on Skyview Lake. Women’s Slalom

Women’s slalom was next off the dock. The energy on the start dock was very encouraging as all the competitors cheered on one another, regardless of region. Women’s slalom was also filled with many personal bests, which prompted even more cheering from the shoreline. Shoreline Fun

All the skiers lined the shore of the lake to cheer on their region. To further represent their region, the Midwest region spray painted their hair pink, and the SCR spray painted their hair blue. When the teams weren’t busy skiing, you could find them playing foursquare or cornhole and getting to know all the skiers from the other regions.

Men’s Trick

Right after women’s slalom, it was time for men’s trick to begin. Men’s trick was very competitive as the skiers fit as many tricks as they could into 20 seconds. The announcer was quickly naming all the tricks as fast as he could and was anticipating who would be the first skier to throw some flips in their trick run. Coming in fifth place was Carter Hooten from the SCR with a trick score of 2190 points. In fourth place was Dan Greene from the SAC with 2610 points. Tricking into third place was Garrett Reese with a score of 3570 points. Taking second place was Garrett Stallings from the SCR with a trick score of 3650 points. Western Night

After a great day full of skiing, it was time for the “3 Bs” as the announcer would say throughout the day; “BBQ, bull, and band.” Skiers got dressed in their Western attire and headed over to the mechanical bull. Everyone had a good time cheering on their teammates riding the bull instead of on the water. BBQ was then served under a Western-themed tent, while the band played some country music. As the night progressed, awards were awarded to each skier who made it to the podium for slalom and trick. The teams cheered as loud as they could for each member who took a podium spot from their region.
