Dane Mechler skis for University of Lousiana at Lafayette within the NCWSA, but this weekend he is skiing in Akita, Japan as one of the six skiers on Team USA. Dane skied into a tie for first in the final round of slalom with 2.5 buoys at 58 kmph / 10.75 meters, he was the second to last skier in the final round and was ultimately tied by Robert Pigozzi who is skiing for the Dominican Republic.
The tie for first lead to a tie breaking runoff. Dane skied first in the runoff achieving a tournament best of 2 buoys at 58 kmph / 10.25 meters (2 at 41′ off). Robert took the water second in the runoff and could not best Dane’s score, giving Dane the men’s slalom title at the 2016 Water Ski World University Championships. (videos will be posted later)
