Congratulations! You’ve made a great decision and joined a Waterski team on your campus. We are so excited to have you in the family.
You can expect 4 years of swerving, spraying, high-flying adventure, nation-wide friendships, and lots of time on the water. There is no explaining the #NCWSASpirit in words, so we’ll defer to HO’s Marcus Brown as adjunct professor.
What more do you need? We’ll leave you with a few things to prepare yourself for your first ski season.
- Talk to your team about what to expect from your first tournament.
- Go with an open mind, and be ready to make lots of friends. Ask an older team member to introduce you to the other teams!
- Don’t be nervous – everyone is very encouraging, from the boat to the shore.
- Get pumped! You’re about to launch yourself into the best memories of your college career.
FAQ
- What if I’m not good at skiing?
- Not to fret! We want you to learn and grow in the sport. Ask your teammates for help, or ask for coaching from other skiers and officials at the tournament. We’re all here to help and support one another. We’ve recently added rules to encourage beginner skiers at tournaments, allowing mini-courses, and top-down scoring.
- What if I AM good at skiing?
- You’re in a league of legends. We’ve been graced by many great skiers, from Freddy Krueger to Rhoni Barton. Want to join the legends? We encourage you to challenge the names on the records list.
- What should I bring?
- Check out our tournament Packing List.
- Most importantly: Bring lots of water to drink during tournaments & bring cold-weather gear for camping, even if it is supposed to be warm.
