The Ragin’ Bull
Jaimee Bull is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). Although she has not been on the collegiate water ski scene for long, Jaimee’s dominance is undeniable. Since enrolling at ULL, Bull has won the women’s slalom event in six of the seven collegiate tournaments in which she competed. She fell just short of the pinnacle in the 2018 South Central Regional Championships where she finished second to last year’s Female Athlete of the Year, Siani Oliver, before going on to win the 2018 Connelly Skis Collegiate Nationals Women’s Slalom title at San Marcos River Ranch.
Bull dominated the field at the 2019 NCWSA South Central Regional Championships tying the collegiate record of 3 @ 39.5 off co-held by Manon Costard (University of Louisiana Monroe), Samantha Dumala (Florida Southern College), and Siani Oliver (University of Louisiana Monroe).
While this feat was a remarkable accomplishment, Bull wanted more. At the Syndicate Waterskis 2019 Collegiate Nationals at Bell Acqua, Bull wanted to do more than just “go the distance” or be a contender, she wanted to be a champion and defend her title. Jaimee took to the water in the fourth rotation with accomplished skiers Brooke Baldwin and 2016 NCWSA Nationals champion Allie Nicholson still on the dock. Bull delivered a knockout punch rounding 5.5 buoys at 39.5′ off to claim the title, smashing the NCWSA women’s slalom collegiate record in the process.
ULL team captain Harry Spavin credits Jaimee’s success to her focus and mental preparation acknowledging that “every day [Jaimee] goes to the lake she is fully focused and has a goal for the day.” When asked about Jaimee, teammate Bailey Austin said that while Jaimee is fun to hang out with at the lake, once Bull gets on the water, “she is a machine.” Both Spavin and Austin credited Jaimee for bringing confidence to the team. The Ragin’ Cajuns know that when Jaimee hits the water, she is ready to perform which pushes teammates to go out and leave it all on the water.
When asked about the significance of being named the NCWSA Female Athlete of the Year, Jaimee said that she is “proud to be a part of the UL team and [she] think(s) that they are a huge reason why” she was named Athlete of the Year.
I remember those cheers, they still ring in my ears, and for years they’ll remain in my thoughts.
